Who hosts a baby shower?Friends of the parents-to-be would have the first honor to host a baby shower. If they cannot host then a family member such as the parents, aunt/uncle, cousin, sister/brother can host seperately or together. Other options are for the family and friends to all host together or have a couple of different showers, making sure the same guests aren’t invited to more than one shower. If you are a host or hostess you are responsible for: the invitations (ordering, paying, addressing, and postage), place cards, menu cards, paper products the location, food, beverages, flowers or decorations, tax and tips and a gift for the new baby You may want to consider sharing these costs with other host/hostesses. Just make sure you list everyone who is helping with the costs on the invitation. Baby shower themesThere are many baby shower themes: Libaray Shower - everyone brings a book for the new baby Around the clock shower - everyone stops by at their designated time to spend quality time with the mother-to-be or the mom and baby Surprise shower - a surprise for the mom (or mom and dad) Couples shower - a luncheon, bbq or other party that can honor and shower both the mother and father and their male and female friends can both attend Sip and See - the baby is born and a luncheon/tea party is held for people to stop by and "sip" tea and "see" the baby Diaper shower - for first, second, or third child - everyone needs diapers and this is a great way to stock up the parents with diapers and wipes - perfect for people who may already have everything - just make sure they have the space to store the boxes and boxes of diapers Luncheon, garden party, spa party, coffe or tea or dinner - there are so many ways to make your baby shower unique and fun for all of your guests. Baby showers for 2nd or 3rd childrenIf the parents have their children very close together they usually do not need anything else because they can pass down the other children’s things to the new baby. It’s also hard to ask your same guests from a year ago to buy another large baby shower gift for the same family just because you want all new things for the new baby. You can throw a party after the baby is born so everyone can see the new little one and have the option to bring a gift if they would like. It’s always nice for each child to have clothing or items that are specifically theirs and did not belong to anyone else. It’s hard being 2nd or 3rd and everything you own has been handed down to you. If the children have great differences in age and the parents may have given away or loaned out all of their old baby things, or one was a boy and one is a girl, then you may want to throw them a shower to fill some of the gaps they may have in their baby items. Make sure you include the registry information so the parents receive just what they need for the newest baby. The Griggs Family will soon grow to three. Pins, diapers and bottles galore Baby number 3 Baby Shower Invitation WordingYou can be as creative as you like with your baby shower invitation wording. Here is a great example: There's a baby on the way Men at Baby Showers!?Traditionally only women were honored at their baby showers. Now both men and women can participate in the parties leading up to their child’s birth. Have a cookout or cocktail party baby shower instead of the traditional women’s luncheon or tea so your husband and his friends will feel comfortable attending. Many men want to be involved in every aspect of the pregnancy and this is a great way to include them and help them understand everything they will need to bring a new baby into their lives. Baby Shower Invitation WordingHow about a fun verse on your baby shower invitation wording. Here are some great examples: The nursery is ready; Tina's expecting, A bundle of joy will soon be here Include registry info on the invite?Resigsty information can be included on or in baby shower invitations. You have three choices to indicate the places you are registered with the invitaiton: 1.) you can have this information printed in much smaller letters centered on the bottom of the invivitation or 2.) you can include a registry card from the store in the envelope or 3.) you can have an enclosure card printed with all of the registry information and put this inside the envelope with the invitation. Your other option is to have your hosts and friends spread your registry information by word-of-mouth. How far in advance do I order and mail the baby shower invitations?Depending on the complexity of the invitation, if there is assembly involved and the printing method you choose(flat, thermography, engraving), some invitations can take 1 week to print and some can take several weeks to print (mainly during the busiest seasons - wedding and holiday). Be sure to plan your party and order your invitations at least 8-12 weeks in advance. Then you will receive in plenty of time to address, add postage and mail. Most formal parties need to be mailed 2-4 weeks in advance so people can reserve the date for your party. More informal parties can be mailed 2-3 weeks in advance. If you have many out of town guests attending you may want to mail the invitations as early as 6 weeks in advance so everyone is sure to reserve the date for your party so that they can attend. You want to make sure the guests have plenty of time to respond, purchase a gift and be available on the party date. Choose your invitations at least 2-3 months before the event so they are delivered to your guests early. If you wait until the last minute you may end up having to print the invitations yourself or paying rush fees to have someone else do it for you. Donīt know baby genderYou can easily throw a shower for a couple when they don’t want to find out the baby’s gender before it is born.
